This is the beginning of the end of America that I grew up in and love very much. When the terrorist attacks of 911 happened, I was horrified like most Americans. We were protected from more attacks for the next 8 years.
Now we have a new President. I never have been political before the elections of "08, but became very interested in this young man from Chicago. I started reading articles on the internet and watching the news. That was enlightening. The mainstream media were just falling all over themselves to tote the Democratic Party and its' candidate. All these years, I thought that the media was supposed to be unbiased. Of course, I am a bit idealistic.
After the election, I watched the results and cried when McCain spoke and cried when Obama spoke. I new that the American Dream had happened for the Obama family, and that dreams really can come true for all Americans.
I did more reading and then began to listen to Fox news. Now, don't get all negative. The headlines were similar, but the questions that these newspeople asked were more thought-provoking.
On to Inauguration Day. Yes, it was a happy day for millions of Americans (about 52%?) I was ready to back the President, just like I have every other President.
Starting from day-1, he began to sign bills each day. He began appointing Cabinet members, but many of them had shady backgrounds. He replied to this by saying that it's hard to find an honest person in Washington. Oh my goodness, and his followers are still backing him no matter what. How did all the planets and stars align so that there were so many willing to blindly follow this inexperienced newcomer from Chicago? How can all of his school records, birth certificate, and information that all Presidents share be so unavailable? Why is no one questioning this man? Maybe we don't want the first African-American President to fail. That would be too embarrassing. We must let him finish his term.
Why are his followers not worried about groups that he has been associated with over the years? How can people that are crooks or are crooked hold some of the highest positions in the nation? How can an organization like ACORN be in charge of anything when it has been proven that they are lying about how they do business? Voters were signed that had questionable backgrounds and citizenship doubts.
I, personally, would not blindly follow someone just because of his color; because he has a nice family; because he can speak to the multitudes. That's another thing. Who is writing all those speeches? Why does he always have teleprompters? When he doesn't have them, there is a lot of "urs" and "ums" and pregnant pauses. Bush was made fun of in these moments.
Why is he on television every day? Why is he doing the Tonight Show? Smoke and Mirrors.
I believe that to keep America distracted from what is going on, he comes on and smiles, kids around and distracts. He says one thing as he is signing another bill that I will get to help pay.
I am 62 years old and have 2 daughters and 7 grandchildren. I have never been more afraid for their safety. I own my own home and was counting on my 401K to pay it off by the time I was 65. I graduated from college in '69 and began teaching that fall. I have worked every year since that time. I have now lost at least a 1/4 or more of that money and believe that I will never be able to retire.
Let me see. Things that concern me. The Democrats and media are making fun of the Tea Parties that were held around the US on tax day. They say that Veterans are "terrorists". They make fun of our party because we are "religious". They say that people at the Tea Parties were called or paid to be there. Are you kidding me? I found out about the Tea Parties on the internet, and was hell-bent to go. I was just glad that there were other people like me that were upset about all the taxes that are being levied on Americans.
Our Freedoms. Hmmmmmmmmm. How to disarm America. Let's see. We can't take away their guns. I know. We will tax ammo and make it impossible to get. The first way to take over a country is to disarm them. What else can we tax? Soda pop. Beer. Wine. Cigarettes. Electricity. Natural Gas. Gasoline. Is anyone thinking what this will cost you at the store? Can the poor afford to pay more taxes on their limited incomes? If one was living from paycheck to paycheck before, it will be almost impossible now with all these taxes. Gone will be the cell phones, computers, going to the movies, heat, air conditioning, etc.
I'm not rich, but I am worried that I will never make it. I'm worried about my parents and their very limited income.
The American Dream is coming to a screeching halt for most normal Americans.
If you don't watch anything but the local and national news, just watch Fox for 1 hour a day. If for no other reason, just to make you think about what is going on and what you never hear anything about on national news.
Oh, and the people in power are trying to get rid of Consertative Radio. Let me see, Freedom of Speech. That's about to be taken away also. Over 48% of the population is not to have a voice or they are "terrorists".
I will continue to keep reading and listening, hoping to hear some encouraging words from someone. They said that Bush was trying scare tactics about the war in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Obama is using these tactics on a daily basis.
